Fornebu is a case study exploring the border between urban and suburban qualities. In our study we want Fornebu to serve as a new municipality of Oslo. For that to happen we believe it is necessary to create a dense city with a proper urban feeling to it. At the same time we want to preserve one of the major existing qualities at Fornebu; the areas of nature. To achieve this we refined and enhanced the two different areas we are creating on Fornebu, the nature and the urban. The border between these two areas then becomes vital to the project. Our approach to create a dense and vibrant city is to superimpose a fine meshed grid over the eastern part of Fornebu, leaving the western side practically untouched. By choosing the grid as a structural principle we hope to amplify the urban experience while benefiting from an effective and well proven strategy.
