An experience centre for children with autism

09 Apr 2020 Skriven av admin

My project proposal is an experience center for children with autism and other disabilities. The center provides spaces where different kinds of bodily movement and experiences can be explored with the purpose of stimulating the development of different kinds of skills. By using motion capture technology some rooms will also interact with the children’s bodies so that they can learn with both their brain and body. This kind of exploring can give a child the feeling of coping with the environment which may have therapeutic functions in terms of lowering anxiety that many children with autism have.

My project is an experience path where one can learn about this tradition of cultivating wine. Along the path different follies are placed where one can experience the different elements that is needed to produce wine, the water, the sun and the earth. One can also learn about the process of wine production. At the top of the terraces lies the final destination of the path. This is where the wine tasting takes place. With all the experiences from the path, one can sip of a glass of wine while watching the beautiful sunset.

The project is a center where different types of movements can be explored, both on the inside and the outside of the building. Inside there’s a big workout room that can be used for dance, yoga or other types of workout. There is also a climbing center, stretching area, locker rooms, and a reception. To challenge the balance of the visitors the floors are tilted and consists of triangular areas. The roof of the building is a continuing of the terrain and contains three different movement paths with different difficulty levels. One is developed for walking or running, the second one is developed for parkour and the third one consist of a climbing wall.

My subject for this assignment is refugees. A pressing issue in both Sweden and Norway is housing and integration for refugees, as well as problems with racism growing alongside the number of refugees. There is of course no simple answer to these complex questions, but by inspiring meetings between people, perhaps we can break this barrier. The residential spaces consists of collectives that is half refugees and half people from Norway. In the collective they share every-day situations and this is most likely where the most crucial meetings will take place. The courtyards next to each other is connected through a staircase so that people from different collectives can wander and meet. The work areas consists of sections for small companies as well as open plan offices that can be used by residents in the building. On ground-level there are public programs such as stores, cafés, restaurants, courts for playing boule, a cinema and a house of culture.

Fornebu

23 Apr 2020 Skriven av Julia Eriksson

Fornebu is a case study exploring the border between urban and suburban qualities. In our study we want Fornebu to serve as a new municipality of Oslo. For that to happen we believe it is necessary to create a dense city with a proper urban feeling to it. At the same time we want to preserve one of the major existing qualities at Fornebu; the areas of nature. To achieve this we refined and enhanced the two different areas we are creating on Fornebu, the nature and the urban. The border between these two areas then becomes vital to the project. Our approach to create a dense and vibrant city is to superimpose a fine meshed grid over the eastern part of Fornebu, leaving the western side practically untouched. By choosing the grid as a structural principle we hope to amplify the urban experience while benefiting from an effective and well proven strategy.

The rice farmers house

The increasing tourism is putting pressure on the fields of Bali. As a result of poor living and the high land price, farmers are being tempted to sell their rice fields to developers and the low income and the stigma of the dirty uneducated farmer keep a whole generation of young Balinese away from rice cultivation. My project suggests that by joining these two worlds in an environment where the tourism is learning how to live as a rice farmer and why it is so important to Bali, the respect and status as a rice farmer can go up and in the same time the younger generation is getting a connection to the outer world while they are working at the rice field. My project consists of a house with as little impact on the environment as possible and bungalows where tourists can rent rooms and get educated about rice farming and also taking part of the work that is being done at the fields.

Zamzam camp

Zamzam Camp is for internally displaced people. Settled by the original village of the same name in 2004, one year after the violent conflict started, this camp has become the largest of many in the region and is still dependent on international aid. As a result of the fast growth the camp struggle with food and water deficiency, sanitation problems, and the lack of feeling safe. By providing the new arrivals with a starter kit with tools to build a dome and to create a livelihood and get people to come together as a community, the feeling of safeness will grow. The digging of dirt, that is needed for the domes, is creating big holes that can be developed to boulis that functions as a water collector during the rainy season and can be used for agroforestry.

The summer hut

23 Apr 2020 Skriven av Julia Eriksson

Using a minimal footprint we have in this project designed a small summer cottage to be placed on an island located in a fjord outside Oslo. The cottage is meant to function solely as a summerhouse as it is not insulated, but it still protects against rain and wind. The construction is simple and can easily be raised by two people without heavy machinery. The design takes the beautiful ocean-view into account by making one complete wall a glass window exposing the water outside. To maintain a sense of privacy the windows facing the neighbors are tastefully covered in a wooden panel. The furnishing is minimalistic with a kitchen in the middle of the room. Mounted on a wall is a ladder leading up into the unique sleeping arrangement consisting of a large net. Through the ceiling windows, the residents can watch the night sky from right under the ceiling. In the small outside area, there’s a basic toilet and a shower.
